ISP partners with FiberDock to streamline the fiber splicing design workflow across dozens of engineering vendors
As the ISP customer expanded its FTTH network across Canada,
maintaining consistent fiber splicing designs across dozens of engineering
vendors became increasingly challenging. By standardizing on FiberDock, this customer created a scalable design workflow that helps every vendor produce
standards-compliant splicing packages.
Overview
FiberDock automates fiber splicing design, helping engineering teams improve consistency, reduce design time, and produce standardized splicing documentation. The software has supported FTTH deployments serving more than 100,000 homes.
Our ISP customer is a leading broadband provider focused on delivering high-speed internet to rural and underserved communities.
As our ISP customer continued expanding its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network, it became clear that a consistent, accurate, scalable, and standards-compliant platform was required for engineering vendors to complete splicing packages.
The Challenge
Standardizing fiber splicing design across multiple engineering vendors
Our ISP customer's FTTH network expansion involves multiple splicing engineering vendors. As the program scaled, maintaining consistent fiber splicing designs across all vendors became increasingly difficult.
When splicing packages were produced manually, engineering vendors often created packages that deviated from the ISP customer's design standards, contained splicing errors, and were delivered in inconsistent file formats. This resulted in duplicated work, additional review cycles, and difficulties importing splicing data into the ISP customer's system of record.
The Solution
A customized FiberDock platform for our ISP customer
The FiberDock team worked with our ISP customer to customize the platform's settings and exports to match its specific engineering standards. The ISP customer's design standards, approved materials and equipment, along with custom splice sheet and address exports, were incorporated into the platform. This enabled engineering vendors to consistently produce splicing packages that aligned with the ISP customer's network design standards while reducing turnaround times.
Built-in validation rules immediately alert designers whenever a design deviates from the ISP customer's standards, allowing issues to be identified before designs enter the review process.
As the ISP customer updates its standards, materials, or approved equipment, FiberDock is updated accordingly. These changes are immediately available to every engineering vendor, ensuring all teams work from the latest standards rather than outdated templates.
Key FiberDock features:
ISP customer design standards built directly into the platform
Automatic selection of approved materials and equipment
Built-in validation warnings that identify standards deviations
Automated fiber count calculations, making late-stage design changes simple
Consistent generation of splice plans, splice sheets, and address lists
Rapid updates when the ISP customer's standards, materials, or approved equipment change
Project Impact
Our ISP customer realized the following benefits after its engineering vendors adopted FiberDock:
Standardized workflows across all vendors
Faster delivery of splice packages
Reduced review effort
Improved data quality
Easier system integration
Scalable vendor onboarding
Greater confidence in design quality
By standardizing fiber splicing design with FiberDock, our ISP customer created a scalable workflow that enables every engineering vendor to produce consistent, standards
compliant splicing packages. The result is improved design quality, more efficient review processes, and a stronger foundation for continued FTTH network expansion.
From our ISP customer:
“FiberDock has streamlined the way our OSP engineering vendors produce fiber splicing packages, improving consistency, reducing manual work, and lowering
the effort required for quality control. The ability to build in and adapt our
standards, materials and validation checks has saved our company time and
valuable resources.
We value the ongoing partnership with the FiberDock team
and the platform’s adaptability to our evolving requirements.”
